The official built-in presets available in the Fairbuds app. “Studio” solves
some issues of the “Main” preset (like sibilant loudness), but still noticeably lacks in treble.
Custom
⚠️ The volume may jump quite drastically between presets, since letting the
optimiser change it drastically improved the curve accuracy.
A collection of presets generated with AutoEq based on frequency response curves from
different
sources. They use undocumented parts
of
the protocol to achieve greater accuracy.
It is unclear why these measurements vary so much. Possibly different firmware versions
or fits. 🤷♂️
Due to different anatomy, no completely-universal neutral earbud target can exist. These presets should serve as a good
base
but in the end they are tuned to my personal preference; see this page for
how to
generate your own.
Custom (app-compatible)
Presets using only settings exposed by the official Fairbuds app. Use these if
you
want to play with the values, as they have a constant band width. You will not achieve as good a treble
response
though, as the EQ stops at 12 kHz and does not affect higher frequencies enough.

Why?
The Fairbuds are not tuned correctly.
Audio is mastered on speakers. When you plug audio directly into your ear canals,
you bypass everything
that
would normally shape the sound, like the room, your head, torso and outer ear.
If you do not compensate for this, the sound will not sound natural to you. The
Fairbuds are tuned more like
speakers than earbuds.
Thankfully, the equaliser on them, albeit limited, is programmable, so we can use
software like AutoEq to
generate suitable presets.
This app includes some best-effort presets and handles the EQ control for you. Give it a
try!

Preamp line is ignored — the Fairbuds do not support it.
